We have this exact same unit but it is labeled whirlpool. It's been good...and it better remain that way. A piss yellow 1970s may tag is in the corner watching it and waiting to take back its rightful place.

The newer one was just to oppease the "boss" wife. The old 70s unit was my grandmother's. It will never die.

Maytag = Whirlpool not Junk per se just cheaper than it used to be. And the suspension rods need to be upgraded.

Can you elaborate? We have been running ours a long time. Honestly figured it would be the electronics that kill it. I like it because it doesn't do the water saver b.s and has a double rinse so it actually cleans clothes.

We had an expensive front loader and I swore it hardly used enough water the get the clothes wet much less clean. It died in 2 years. Never again.

This is front load and the commercial grade units.

Absolute garbage

All front load washers are garbage. I wouldn’t own a washing machine that needs to be “cleaned” periodically.

My Kenmore series 80 has been going strong since 1996. But it’s just me so I don’t have to wash a lot.

Speedqueen, Dexter, Huebects (sp?) seem to be the favorites

Why Whirlpool direct-drive washer and matching dryer are still working 21 years later. Dumb, tough, and parts are cheap and easy to replace. I replaced the pump, some seals, put in the commercial-grade 6-puck clutch assembly, and changed out the oil in the gear case with fresh synthetic lube and it took maybe 4 hours of effort. Dryer got new drum guide bearings and a belt. Ready for the next 20 years...

I've been having the Maytag Commercial washer for about 3 years. A few months after the purchase it started having a timing issue with the final spin cycle. Under warranty. This was apparently an issue they knew about and had resolved with a revised control board. At the time they didn't have any of the new control boards available so they completely refunded my purchase. After a couple of weeks the problem self resolved and the washing machine has been working perfectly ever since. So needless to say I've been pretty satisfied with my free Maytag Commercial washer.

What happened to cause it to be totaled after 4 years? A bad transmission?

Ya something like that. Oil/grease leaking all over the floor.

Recently the Maytag dryer heat element failed but I replaced that myself a couple weeks ago.

I would say even top loaders should be cleaned periodically. I run a packet of lemi-shine washer cleaner on an empty hot wash cycle every few months in mine and there's quite a bit of residue and debris that gets washed out every time. I think if you ever saw the wash tub liner on your washer you'd probably want to clean it too.

Yep. I have a 35 year old Kemore GAS dryer and a 40 year old Maytag washer, both still going strong. Sure, I had to replace and repair along the way but that gas dyer is probably the easiest, thing I have ever had to repair. The parts count is ridiculously low and the there’s just not that much that can go wrong with it. And that old Maytag washer is about the same, just a little more complex with stuff like clutches and such. These things will definitely outlive me and then some idiot will get them and use them until something minor like a door switch will finally give up, then they will be trashed since most of this new generation has no knowledge of such things and don’t care to. IDIOTS!

Yeah oil and grease is a bad transmission i would charge around $400-450 to replace one so for most they would get a new machine.
It's really only a job done under warranty. A transmission cost me over $200.

My suspension rods are going out and it's banging. What suspension rods do you suggest? Just ones off of the Maytag site?

I think someone was playing you for a fool. I have almost every part for a VMW washer on my truck.
Nothing is hard to come by on this class of machine.

This. It's sad. But you catch a tech on a bad day or piss a tech off especially on a warranty job when they are guarunteed pay anyway these things happen.

Someone was playing me when they had to order a part and Maytag didn’t have the part in stock ?
