Magnolia Tree

I moved into my current home in '09. I have a ~25ft. Magnolia Tree in the front yard. From April - September it dumps leaves like crazy. I've always gone out a picked them up by hand almost daily but as the tree and I have gotten older I find it harder to keep up. My yard looks amazing for about an hour after I mow then turns to crap with leaves everywhere.
Anyone have any secrets to mitigate the amount of leaves on the ground or is cutting it down my only option?

I have one in my back yard. The branches touch the ground and I leave the leaves underneath the canopy.
When they blow out, I mulch them.

When I was a kid growing up in the Lower 9th Ward, a neighbor had 2 HUGE magnolia trees right next to the property line separating our houses.
I hated those trees. Between the almost constant leaf drop, the damn seeds the cones produce that birds ate and crapped all over everything and the cones themselves that look like hand grenades I had my fill. The leaves didn't break down like other tree leaves since they are so thick and waxy, so I had to rake them, bag them and put them to the curb----EVERY fricking week.
When I left home at 17 I swore I'd never have one of those mess makers on any property I own in the future---and I haven't.
Oh, and after I left and it was just my mom and 2 younger sisters, she had an uncle come over with a saw and lop off a lot of the branches hanging over our property line to ease the mess----because her yard slave was out on his own and out of state.

That's pretty much where I am now. I use the blower to blow them against the side of my neighbors house then rake and bag them. Two bags so far this week and I just mowed Friday.

I've never understood the hate for magnolia trees. My dad bitches about MY magnolia trees dropping leaves every time he comes to my house
. I like magnolia trees and the leaves don't bother me one bit because I just chop them up when I cut grass. I think they're beautiful trees to be honest.

I love the tree and think it is beautiful. But I love a nice mowed lawn better. As I said in the OP; my yard looks great for about an hour after mowing but then is covered in leaves. And as windy as it's been lately they are scattered all over my neighbors yards as well.

almost had this happen to my dumb arse while trimming my magnolia tree a couple weeks ago. my shed saved me. didn't really think it through. beer was involved.
I remember my great uncle would use a flounder gig to spear the leaves then put them in a garbage bag. he'd spend an hour or so every evening spearing magnolia leaves in his front yard.

My neighbor had one that dumped leaves on my property for years. I hated it. The leaves are huge and don't mulch for shite. House sold last year and new owner cut it down. Praise Jesus.

This is the way a Magnolia is supposed to be. Most people cut the lower limbs so the can mow under it.

Mine must be a different breed because it looks nothing like that. I’ve never cut any branches and the closest one to the ground is over six feet.
