What would be something good to plant in my flower bed to fill in gaps? Something that would crawl on top of mulch and not have to root as it goes along? SWLA

I planted some spider plant as ground cover and love it. It's filled in very quickly, but easy to maintain. It shoots out new sprouts that root when they hit the ground. It would probably stick to the top of the mulch you have.

Other option would be traditional Jasmine that grows EVERYWHERE.

Could check out frogfruit or pigeonberry. Both are gulf coast natives that spread vigorously and stay under 6 inches tall.

We have some bugleweed in a bed. Blue flowers, grows well in shade. Wife loves it.

all vining plants root runners to some extent. Vinca is well behaved and easily controlled by pulling or even a haircut with a weedeater. It’s a non woody plant that doesn’t re sprout after pulling. I have it all over my low beds and it looks fantastic

not sure what you are banging your head about but you should probably stop before you put an eye out

My thought, correctly or incorrectly, is that I've mulched pretty heavily. So I'm looking for something low to fill in area in-between the bigger things I've planted and didn't know if things that vine out and need to root would get down through the mulch.

The spider plant seems like it would fit the bill but the vinca has nice flowers. Like you said, very pretty.

most tender vining plants just send out small roots like grapples to grab a hold and keep going they don’t actually root a new plant unless the vine gets covered

come to Hammond I’ll pull up a bunch of vinca for you you can try it out
