Looking to add on outline/border around concrete patio

I have a 12’ x 20’ concrete patio that I am looking to add an outline around to push yard encroachment back a bit. Thinking 12-16” or so. Not looking to do a super complicated or complex addition but also want to do it where it doesn’t look like shite in a few years and needs to be redone. Cost efficiency is a significant factor. Not looking to spend more on this job than I need to.
The patio cover is very high, so I do get rain water blown onto the patio that needs to be able to drain off. For this reason I’ve kinda ruled out concrete.
Was thinking of digging 4-6” or so down and laying some gravel and topping with 16” square paver stones. Does this sound like a feasible plan? Is there a better or more economical option that I’m overlooking? I don’t want just gravel as my rock garden gets lots of leaves and yard debris hung up in it and starts looking messy.

Who built your overhead patio cover? And what area are you in? I’m looking to have something like that built using the existing roof and those sky jacks. Thanks.

I would just line it with a row of liriope

Paver stones on a gravel base are a practical and cost-effective choice for drainage and keeping the area clean.

I am in Slidell. Had Tru Contracting and Consulting out my patio up. Believe they are based out of Mandeville.
The Cutting Edge is another one based out of Lafayette I think that posts a lot of really nice patio installs.

Thanks. I checked it out on the company’s website. They have a few pics posted.
Is that a pre-made pergola kit, or did they build it all by hand on site? What did that job cost, if you don’t mind?

Can put nice metal landscape barrier that rusts and rubber hammer it down between gravel and grass to keep it out. Barely notice it and looks clean.

Roof surface is Hercules polycarbonate system from Coveryourpergola.com
It’s a little on the pricier side but I have no complaints so far. It covers our back windows which are the source of all our natural light in our living area, so we can keep our blinds open and let in light that a regular cover would have shaded out.

Gotcha. I was just editing my previous post above when you replied. Is that a pre-made pergola kit?

No sir. That was all sourced lumber and custom install.

Just got quoted $4,800 for a gravel/paver outline. Probably a fair price but definitely more than I’m looking to spend on solving this problem. Lol

grab a flat shovel, several bags of pea gravel and a couple dozen pots of blue liriope. Scrape off the grass and topsoil the width of your border, use string and stakes to stay straight. Pack the soil down with the flat of the shovel. Install the pea gravel. Install the the liriope at the edge of the grass all the way around. Water everything down good.
Crack open another beer and admire your handiwork

Solid idea. Would look nice and it seems like the liriope outline could work to keep grass and debris out of the rocks.
