What’s to stop the builder from trying to say oh that’s going to cost a lot more you don’t need all of that….
because the engineer won't allow it because he has separately stamped the MEP drawings and will not sign the certificate of completion required for occupancy if the construction does not adhere to the drawings

thats what

What does the engineer matter…the shithead parish inspector seems to do his drive by and approve everything

Fuggin right man.

Im an engineer, just in a field very far removed from residential construction. Stuff like the above is what I absolutely don't mind spending money on.

I definitely can see this being an equally useful tool for vetting builders. A builder scoffing at having prints for anything is an excellent sign that they'll likely piss me off for all of eternity if I hire them.

You made my day today. Appreciate it.

The only issue you’ll see is the builder is going to see dollar signs. I have a buddy of mine trying to build pricing out plans done by an architect and their first comment is ohhhh this was done by an architect it’s going to cost a lot more

I see how that could happen if you designed some abomination that has no thought put into it. Ive helped build a few houses and lots of utility structures. Mine will be designed to be affordable and easy to build with exterior esthetics following interior function and mechanical reliability.

If a builder wants to charge more in today's climate just because its not what they usually build, im not hiring them.

precisely

and the fact that you know what you are looking at and there should be some level of professional courtesy from the ME and he can get you recs on suitable subs makes this a no brainer strategy.

in my fantasy world i'd have a 2HR separated utilities entrance closet for power, data, water, gas and compressed air with racks and monitoring equipment
