Just had to retire my Z Grill smoker and am looking for a pellet grill with greater functionality. Has anyone tried a combo smoker/grill? If so, how was the value compared to purchasing two separate units? Thanks!

No experience using a combo gas/pellet grill, but I’m not sure how that would work. The pellet grill needs a fan to circulate.

I have the Masterbilt gravity smoker that uses charcoal it works really well. I can grill and smoke on it.

You could also go the Amazen Tube or Amazen maze route and use that on a gas grill.

I saw one of these at Walmart last year. I believe it was a Pit Boss brand.

I have the Pit Boss one. It’s fine for what it is, it’s a pellet smoker, gas grill, and came with a cast iron insert to make the gas side into a griddle so a 3 in 1 for $700 was a heck of a steal. That being said the pellet side is kinda finicky and doesn’t hold the temperature very reliably. If you’re looking to save some money and space it’s a pretty good option but I’d recommend getting different units if you can

I just got one of these for myself for Christmas and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s fantastic and has exceeded my expectations. My only gripe is that the app isn’t worth a shite. Have to reconnect it each time I use it.

Had this issue as well. I found someone that said when you start it up you need to open the app first. Then plug in and turn it on. It’s worked perfect every time since I’ve done that

Run. This is NOT a good long term brand.

Maybe you have a bum unit because on mine I can do an 8 hour rib low temp cook and have no qualms about leaving it unattended.

I was looking into them and camp chef. Nichols has the woodwind 24 pellet smoker on sale for $650 so that helped me make up my mind.

Kamado Joe eggs are both gas/smoker combos if you want to spend that much.

TBH I would stick with just a smoker/grill combo that doesn't include gas. I prefer the flavor from those as opposed to gas grills, even though that would upset my friend Mr. Hank Hill.

I have the Camp Chef Woodwind 36. I have all 3 of the sidekick attachments for it as well. Cast Iron flat top, sear box, and the pizza oven.

The attachments are super easy to swap out. They just fit right on top of the propane sidekick. I do smashburgers, cheese steaks, breakfast, etc. on the flat top. I mainly use the sear box to reverse sear steaks but it can be used just like a small grill. Wife uses it while Im offshore for burgers a lot. And the pizza oven is well, a pizza oven and it does a fine job.

Could not be happier with it. I set my cooks up and monitor/ adjust from my phone from where ever I am. Have an errand to run in the middle of that brisket? Not a problem. Ive even had my wife throw a pork butt on while I was offshore and monitor it from the GoM. I just let her know when to wrap it and then when its done.

This is one of the best purchases I have ever made. The versatility is unmatched. With 3 little kids running around, its impossible to just park it and monitor a fire all day when I want to smoke something nice. This allows me to do that. The app notifies you whenever the temp drops below or rises above a certain percentage above your desired temp so you know to check on your cook. You can also select how much smoke you produce. So along with setting your temp, you select the amount of smoke on a scale from 1-10. Everything can be controlled from the control panel on the unit or via the app on your mobile device.

Also wanted to add, last year a buddy of mine spilled a drink on the control panel. Worked fine but the screen got a little cattywompas. It was like you could see 2 different screens and the one in the back was faded. Anyway, I emailed Camp Chef customer support and they looked up my serial number. I was still under warranty so they sent me a brand new controller at NO COST TO ME. It was super easy to swap out. From the time I emailed them to the time I had the new controller installed was 4 days.

So product and customer service both get a 10/10 from me.
