Live Oak Tree Care?

SE MS area ( Forrest Co.), Have three mature live oaks (50 - 60 ft tall), which have some intermittent areas of missing bark. A fourth tree similar areas but not as large as the others.
Wondering what I can do to preserve them. Beautiful trees.
Any POCs I can follow up with? TIA

Any idea why the bark is missing?

Nope.
They sit near a pond so they should be getting plenty of water. Too much water? I suspect they're about coming up on a century age wise.
The pond is manmade as well as the house. Wonder if either are impacting the long-term health of the trees.
Talked with someone in the MS Forestry who suggested we get the soil sampled and treat from there.

I would join the Mississippi Gardening Facebook group. Felder Rushing runs that group and he taught arborist classes at Ms St for a long time. Post a picture on that website and you will get an answer.

Maybe call the MS State Extension office in your county? They're a great resource in each state.

Could it be pests / animals instead of soil / water situation?

Find someone to look at it. My parents have an old property with a couple live oaks that have gone through some health scares. One we thought was for sure dying when big parts of the crown turned brown. But it eventually recovered.
