I have a 2 year old Bermuda lawn in North MS. Its never been aerated and the soil beneath it is packed as hell. When is the best time to get this done? I've been told late may but i figured i would get the H&G board opinion as well.

Thanks!

Anytime the grass is growing is the best time. I aerated mine 3 weeks ago as it was about 75% greened up. I prefer to not do it during the coldest or hottest months because they grass is stressed enough.

I don't see any issues there. You want enough moisture in the soil to pull solid plugs but not so much that you rut the yard up.

What tool is typically used to aerate your yard?

You can rent a core aerator from AAA rent-all or some local garden centers/hardware stores may have it.

I use a Ryan Lawnaire VI core aerator.

Liquid aeration is not an aeration. At best it is a soil conditioner and should only be used as such.
