A carpet guy that had given me a quote for carpet tile told me if the floor had any kind of paint on it he wouldn’t be able to install carpet tile because it wouldn’t stick.

He said it would have to be roll. This is for an office. Do you think he’s full of shite he just doesn’t want to do the job anymore?

We just laid some carpet tiles. The substrate was an old wood T&g floor that had a glue down padding from what looked like 1980 something. The padding was basically powdering up when you touched it, a lot of it we just left down. We cleaned it the best we could and rolled the dice with the adhesive, trawled it on top and laid the carpet tiles. I didn’t think it would stick but I was 100% wrong. Stuck amazingly well. We purchased the adhesive from the flooring supply store along with the trawl tool. I’d say go with it. You can do a sample drop piece in a corner but the dry time in the glue takes a couple days before you can do a pull test on it. G’luck

What dude is trying to say is it will stick to the paint but the paint will peel/pull off easily. I pulled some of that floor paint up with a piece of tape the other day.
