Is it time to give up on this piece of sod?

Tried plugging this spot in my front yard about a month ago. Full sun most of the day. Am I screwed or is it salvageable?

I wonder why the surrounding grass isn’t sending runners toward the bare soil. Maybe there’s something wrong with that spot. How that bare spot happen to begin with? Did you grind up a tree stump there?

The green on that piece of sod indicates to me that some of the root system is still alive. Keep watering it.

If you get a chance to grab another piece off the side of the road, do it.

The bare spots are highly susceptable to weeds.

How often had you been watering it during that month?

I watered at least 2x, but usually 3x/day for the first week.
Then 2x/day for the second week.

Must’ve been a tree stump there. Last year it just started getting very brown and died off. When I went to investigate I realized it was pretty significant hole with some old roots there. I packed it with dirt and put the sod piece on it.

I’ve only been watering late in the evenings because I am at work for 6 AM.

Makes sense.

Sounds like the grass was parched.
If you're in an area getting rain today and tomorrow, it should be fine.
On the other hand, if you're expecting a full day of sun with no rain, consider leaving the hose on a trickle when you leave one morning.
