Good call. I am sitting in my 85* pool right now.
Ours is running in the mid to upper 80's. 88 last week but the rains have cooled it a bit. And filled it up.

Does those fountains that connect to the jet nozzles really work
Yep. Run them at night. 4-5 degree drop

We have a heater for our connecting spa. We will def replace it with a chiller/heater when it goes out.
I think you just have to add the heat pump unit and keep the furnace. 500k BTU furnace is like 40 tons. A heat pump won’t be anything close to that. Sure won’t be warming the spa in under an hour during the winter, maybe not under a day. Do some people make it work?

I’m not sure honestly. We have a 400k BTU heater (biggest Pentair makes I think) and it will heat our spa from 40 to 102 in about an hour.
I got in my pool today it was mid 80’s and felt fantastic. Come August weather I’ll wish we had a chiller.

Not when I’m using the sprinklers.
Sprinklers use evaporative cooling. If the humidity is too high (like south Louisiana) the evaporation will be minimized. If that happens and the air temperature is higher than your water, a sprinkler could actually make your water warmer.

We used to have an electric heat pump for our spa. In the winter, it would take 48 hours to heat it up. Now I've got the same gas heater you do and it comes to temp in an hour.
For the OP, you can buy the pool return sprinklers on Amazon that look like flowers. They don't look bad (better than just pvc) and they work. I've got 2 of them, and run my pool normal during the day, but then set it to run 3 hours at night during the coolest part of the day. Keeps our pool 5-10 degrees cooler than without it.

These are a little pricey, but they look way better than the cheap pvc ones off of Amazon. Arctic Rain

i have three sprinkler attachments on my return jets. i installed them a few weeks ago when the pool got to 90. i run the pool from 8 pm to 8 am or so. my pool is currently 85 and has stayed in the 80s since.
i used them last year when it was in the 100s daily here in south Louisiana and pool stayed below 90 being ran at night with the sprinklers.
18000 gallon chlorine in ground gunite pool for reference. we were going to install a chiller but pool builder recommended these first and im glad we chose this. $60 compared to 3k for chiller.

That looks pretty simple to install. Do they actually cool the water Interesting idea
Will that affect the PH rising? My pool has a SWG and the PH climbs during the week. I am adding a cup or a tad more twice a week to keep the PH under 8.
I have read where adding any kind of water fall, which we have 2, or water features will make the PH climb more.

Yes, having water features will make your PH climb. So add more acid to 7.6 and let it climb to normal. Probably will need to add a half gallon every 2wks.
