If you start your lawn care advice with these words, you’re smug and I hate you.

Thanks Captain Obvious. Now if you can just tell me best control practice for the lawn issue I’m currently facing, hopefully I’ll be able to identify the problem and up to your standards by next growing season.

I hear what you are saying, but that’s a true statement for bermuda. With enough nitrogen and water (and frequent/correct mowing) it will choke out just about anything else. When I realized that, I had very little weed problems.

Can’t speak for other grasses.

I’m sitting in the polar opposite chair with centipede. Wasn’t really my choice but figured I’ll do the best I can with it before nuking it and starting over with a reseed.

Finally have property without dense shade areas so may give the denser growing grass seeds a try. Of course that’s after I’ve had a chance to use pre-emergent, properly irrigate and fix low spots, and correct ph levels, that I still find myself getting my arse handed to me by these damn pasture weeds.

Edit: 2 downvotes for mentioning Bermuda in a thread about lawn smugness.?? Relax people.

I'm a bit confused. Swamie makes a post and he doesn't mention bermuda. The reply does. Then Swamie says 2 downvotes for mentioning bermuda and says relax. Is Swamie and his alt leading this conversation?

Anyway, hard to help you with your lawn when you don't post pictures or tells us what type of weeds you are dealing with.

All good ronk.

Just some common grassy weed issues that aren’t too difficult to diagnose. Just noticed a common refrain when making sure I identified the right weed. We don’t all need Customer Service ronk!

The Bermuda comment was is response to the downvotes that Cool Hand received. Figured it was people not interested in hearing about Bermuda. Or maybe people just don’t like him on this board. IDK

I live in a subdivision that was once dairy pasture - all I can say it takes persistence and patience, and years to rid one’s self of pasture weeds. That’s how I discovered MSM Turf in my need to control bahiagrass. And don’t get me started on common Bermudagrass. And then if you do get everything under control, and years later you do a major ground disturbance in your backyard like putting in a pool, you get to start all over because you’ve just brought to the surface every damn pasture weed seed that been buried for years.

But there are a number of new homeowners that post here without a lot lawn experience and are dealing with with lawn care and weed issues for the first time, and it’s good that they are made aware and understand that phrase you don’t want to hear anymore.

Grass looks nice.
But bro, where are your plants? 2 years and 2 weeks and still no garden in front of your house?

I don’t post enough for that. I figured they just disagreed with what I said.

Your neighborhood allows a house with zero landscaping?

I take the approach that a well maintained yard means to mow it at least weekly. Even weeds look fine when mowed. My daddy used to strut around in the yard looking at his grass, moving his sprinkler all around. I've never wanted to be like Hank Hill.

You know the reason why I’d spray 1 day before mowing, besides to allow leaf blades reaching max surface area to absorb the herbicide?

Because my arse can’t tell the difference between Johnston grass and turf after a fresh mow.

Coming from you, now I feel like I stepped in the ring vs Tyson.

Know that the original comment was not posted with you or ronk in mind. I see how helpful you are to many who aren’t experienced with lawn care issues.

Bud, no worries. Anything said by me here is all for fun. This is by far the best board on this site. Craw is one of the most helpful posters on this board and his knowledge on technical details is unparalleled. I’m sure he will respond but ain’t no hard feelings on home and garden.
