i know i've posted an older photo of our kitchen before, but its now 99% finished and you can clearly see the suggestions we implemented based on a random thread i started here
we didn't hire a designer for layout, electrical or lighting. just a hispanic crew who only did what we said..so we had to think of *EVERYTHING* and while this created alot of stress, it was also rewarding in that we made the decisions for every single light, outlet, plumbing connection and since we ripped both the subfloor and ceiling out, all of the proper steps to put that all back together correctly; stuff like putting down a vapor barrier, etc.
we even ripped out the 'one sided' french doors for new ones which both opened.
anyway, what you're seeing here is nuanced but slick
BEFORE
AFTER
- under counter lighting under the uppers (not pictured) and both shelves
- hidden switches for both the sink light and the LED system which are embedded in a channel under the shelves
- hidden outlets under the shelves all around
- push button garbage disposal next to the sink
- we have a narrow kitchen so we skipped the island in favor of a table we can move around as needed. still need to raise it up about 6" which i'm going to do by adding some casters to the legs
- induction range vs gas
- size, style & placement of the wafer lights in the ceiling
- 3 faucets; sink, above range and above coffee bar
we definitely had major scope creep, but i justify it by telling myself i just moved my investments from mutual fund account to home improvement account.
once the last of the trim, caulking and finishing are done, i'll post photos of the whole area. we absolutely love it and the wife picked the countertops and backsplash tile and is thrilled so that's really all that matters. she's very picky.
THANKS AGAIN!
this site really has helped me in multiple ways over the years. here's to our esteemed leader, chicken.

Looks awesome.
Could just be the angle of the picture but it looks wayyy bigger now.
I haven't had a backsplash since last September because my wife still hasn't decided what she wants to go with

- we knocked the wall out separating kitchen from dining room so i'm further back w/ the camera
- we got rid of that awful soffit which made the low ceilings even lower
- we add about 4" of wall to that doorway in the back and reframed it so we could fit a 36" range and 2 standard sized cabinets on either side.

Looks great
We did away with some cabinets and put floating shelves as well. Really helps open up the space and feels like crammed.
Just don't do white subway tile. It's so overdone.

we have a tiny one on the opposite wall...

just ignore the extension cord..we haven't installed the outlets or lighting on this side yet.
eta the coffee bar is my favorite part of the whole kitchen so i'll get a nice closeup of that whole thing when there isn't exposed wiring and crap back there.

Looks great! Just curious but why not to the countertop waterfall on both ends?

1. We're broke now

2. That's an awkward side by that doorway that nobody will see anyway.
3. We would have had to purchase a 3rd slab so the cost was way too high for what we would be getting.

Did you lose a lot of storage?
Looks like you have substantially less cabinets in the renovation.

yes and no. we tore down the wall between the kitchen and dining room and went ahead & ran the cabinets and countertop across both rooms. as a result, we ended up with alot more cabinet & shelf space as we built out that side as well.
the existing pantry had a duct running from floor and vented out through the soffit so the old pantry was really shallow and basically unusable. we cut the duct at the floor and vented it under the new pantry so we could put a full size one there.
we also removed the soffit all the way around which added additional storage to the ceiling in the pantry, above the coffee bar and even above the fridge.
so we actually ended up with a ton more storage room just by gutting the ktichen and turning it into an empty rectangular box and starting over.
here's a pic so you see what i mean. we haven't installed the cabient doors on that shelf to the right which we had to add to hide the plumbing that was inside the wall we took down.

eta here's what i'm talking about. here's the fake/stretched realtor pic (only one i have) and you can see how much of the wall space is wasted with poor design and that hideous soffit. our ceilings are already low so that soffit just killed a ton of potential storage space.
notice the vent on the soffit in the back and the wall depth next to it?
now look at the wall depth next to the oven. the pantry is 1/2 as deep due to the stupid ductwork in the wall which served no purpose so you could barely fit a box of cereal in the old pantry.
eta2: all those drawers & cabinet doors on the pennisula were FAKE

She doesn't want to make another mistake, look who she chose for a husband.

Induction stove?
A full pot of water for pasta tastes maybe a minute.
I've scraped and chiseled all the carbon build up off my cast iron from years of gas range use and will never have to worry about that again.
