I have a big concrete patio and want to build a fire pit on the far corner of it.

Are there tips/tricks you guys have for building one with relatively inexpensive materials from Home Depot? It doesn't need to be extremely fancy -

Take a cheap "fire pit" that comes with the stand, drill a few holes in the bottom of it for drainage and airflow. Build brick around the stand, leave a few spaced about half a brick around the base to allow for air flow. All done. You can take the fire pit out and dispose of the ash instead of letting it build up or having to shovel it out.

That is what I did at my old house, and it worked great.

Just get the curved retaining wall blocks from Home Depot or whatever and glue them together?

I didn't even "glue" mine together. I just stacked them. don't follow the guidelines of how many it takes to make a circle. It's actually two more than what the manufacturer says. I think mine was called "Arizona Flagstone" from Lowes.

Home Depot has a kit which includes the fire pit ring and concrete blocks to build a round pit for $2xx.

Go to a truck tire dealer and get a bent/damaged rim from an 18 wheeler, use that as the pit and build brick around it. Rim will probably be free and will last 10 times longer than a cheap fire pit

I posted this a while back. Took a hammer gun, drilled out a circle on the concrete on patio. Mortared stones together, leaving some air gaps at the bottom. Filled bottom with sand, worked out good. Its not hard to shovel ashes now and then.
