How do you get rid of this asap?
Also, how can we prevent it from coming back?

Get some physan algaecide abd follow the directions.

It is a blue--green algae and copper herbicides are effective control agents for BG algae. Pwejr88 I know you have a pond - you have any copper sulfate you use for the pond?
You could use copper products sold by pool suppliers, copper fungicides for landscapes plants but many hardware stores sell small containers of copper sulfate for ornamental ponds, etc. It’s cheap. Mix a batch according to label directions and spray.

Miracle Grow has CuSO4 in it, wonder if it would work and also green up the grass at the same time?
