Seeing neighbors bagging and putting on the street always disappoints me.
Such extra work and such a waste.
I just mulch mine

This. I laugh as my neighbor has a bunch of piles and struggles to rake them all into a bunch of bags all day long. 20 minutes of walking behind my mower and I'm done... Not concerned about thatch. It's warm frequently enough here that decomposition can happen all winter.

Much and into gardens for the heavy accumulation. Once the falling leaves lighten up, it's mulch right into grass, no dumping. This is a weekly to bi monthly occurrence and in fact, the next time will be the first true mulching, no bagging.

I cant think of a more pointless and wasteful endeavor for a homeowner to undertake.

Blow them into the ditch and let them drain away. Then I call the city when things do not drain right.

I've got a different situation than has yet been discussed. I have a 1 acre yard with 120 very tall trees and 50 smaller trees. The density is heavy forest.
So, I cannot burn since the next tree is 10 feet away from the fire.
I cannot bag since it would take over 1,000 bags.
I cannot compost since the pile would be over 20 feet high.
So, I mulch with the mower in shifts. I go over the same area every 5 days from early Oct till mid Dec until the stuff is small enough to incorporate with the ground over the winter.
I like trees.

You should get a chipper/shredder. You could start off with a pile of leaves the size of a car, and they’d shred into a bag or two.

Then why not just leave the leaves?? We had a very similar situation until hurricane Michael. We blew leaves off of the driveway into a compost pile but that was it.

There are tons of creatures that call leaf litter home in the forest, just leave it be! They will decompose as part of the natural cycle of things.

I round them up into piles with my mower, then run over the piles with the mower a few times to finely chop them up. Then they all get thrown in various compost piles and beds.
