I have an "old school" Honeywell programable thermostat that is not following the program. For example it runs at 70 degrees in the middle of the day when it is programmed for 78.

By old school- it's not wifi enabled or remote controlled.

If I can't trouble shoot I'm considering going to a newer programable thermostat. Anyone have experience/reviews with the T9 or T10 models?

Not sure what you mean by lost its settings. If you mean lost power recently? No. If you mean day of the week? Yes, it loss the correct day of the week a while back. I assume during a power outage. It still shows a day of week just not the correct one. I tried going through the menu several times but can't find where to set the day of the week. My fix was to set up every day of the week on the same schedule. The time is still accurate and I have confirmed am and pm are correct.

However in the middle of the day if goes to 70 even though it is programmed for 78. I manually change the setting to 76 (temporary setting) and then press use schedule and it goes back to 70. I check the schedule on the edit program and it shows 78.

I have a new one (2.5 years old) that exhibits much the same behavior. Set for 73, always, always cools to 70 and keeps it there. I have to turn it off completely for hours to achieve 73.

I got away from programmed stats because of such issues.

Bought a new house, it had three Honeywell Thermostats. My A/C guy came by, said they were junk. Replaced all three, never had another problem.

These wouldn’t hold the correct temperature.

Really don’t remember, an I’m not home. I just wanted a simple one, no bells and whistles. The new ones have been in over 8 years.

I have a 35 yr old programmable Honeywell thermostat that’s the size of. Small brick and it still works well. I replaced the other unit with a cheap, small, Honeywell programmable and it seems to work well too. I may have gotten lucky.

If replacing You can get a “dumb” programmable Honeywell at Home Depot. Get the one with a backlight

Edit maybe mine aren’t programmable, or maybe hd doesn’t have them anymore. I don’t use a program. Sorry. This is the one I have, looks to be discontinued. LINK

Check supply house.com too.

I have turned to Wyze for sprinkler weather aware controllers, doorbells, door contacts, and thermostats. I haven't had a problem with any of them (I can't replace current thermostat since it's a rental.)

While my last Wyze thermostat was smart, it wasn't stupid, if that makes any sense. It's the same as the current model.

Also investigate where your thermostat is placed. The builder on my last house put it facing three tall windows that faced South, where it got direct sun exposure all day, and was in probably the warmest spot in the house. It's cheaper than you expect to move it if that's the case (to a thermo neutral spot.) Add room sensors for temp if you need them.
