Home Security Systems

I’m moving into a new home next month and looking at options for security systems. It’s a gated neighborhood and safety threats are on the low end; but I’d like to have cameras at the very least. We had ring cameras and custom security in Baton Rouge. I’d like to have one system. I’ve read that some of the camera systems have new terms of service that require subscriptions that might make a security company the way to go.
Just looking for some anecdotal observations. We will be in Northwest Louisiana, if any of you have any experience with anyone in the area.
Thanks

I've heard lots of good things about ADT & Vivint with their security cameras. If you liked Ring already, you can always purchase their floodlight cameras which are pretty good.
I've got Simplisafe in Baton Rouge. I love it. Very user friendly. I haven't gotten their outdoor cameras yet but I've also heard they're some of the best. Our system only costs $27.99/month to have 24/7 monitoring. They usually give a massive discount and free indoor camera if you buy a system and build from scratch. We did it that way so we could have the correct number of sensors for doors/windows/rooms. Their response time is fairly quick. It's never taken longer than 30 seconds when the alarm gets accidentally set off.
The upfront cost is the only downside of Simplisafe, but you will save money in the long run because of the $27.99/month instead of what other companies charge ($50-$60 minimum). No contracts. End the professional monitoring whenever you want and you can monitor yourself.
If the price isn't a concern for you, however, then use a company like ADT & Vivint. I've also heard that Arlo has a good cameras system as well.

I use eufy cameras right now, if I ever build or buy for a final home everything will be POE powered so I don't have to deal with batteries. Eufy is better than Ring.

I use Eufy also and 3 years no complaints

I have Eufy also, no subscription, alerts go to my phone when motion is detected. I had ADT for years but I thought having them monitoring was useless when I have my phone on me at pretty much all times

Love SimpliSafe as well but have my own outdoor cameras. I wanted the separate DVR to store recordings and this also allows me to have my cameras on backup battery that still records in the event of a power outage. My modem is on the same battery, so I also still have internet with a power outage.
FYI, Ring has recently entered the alarm business, do not know anything about it but saw it when I upgraded my flood lights to ring floodlights.

They've had a security system around for awhile. I have the $30/year Ring Pro doorbell DVR but I'm not sure how much their alarm system costs.

I've had traditional alarm companies since 2004, switched to Simplisafe about 2 years ago - best thing I ever did.
Lower cost for the system, you install it yourself - very easy to do, and less than half the monthly monitoring fee.
Simplisafe runs sales all the time, keep an eye out - never pay full retail.

That and I've yet to replace any of my batteries except for the front door smart lock.

Swann Cameras off Amazon are great and work wonders for the price.

EZVIZ C8W Pro PTZ cameras (5MP with 4mm lenses and color night vision). Highly capable and customizable cameras and you can watch all of your EZVIZ cameras live at the same time in the app.
As long as you don't have to have cloud recording, there are no subscriptions and you get artificial intelligence for human and vehicle notifications and you can set custom phone notification tones as long as you make sure you are at least using V5.3.8 firmware, which also improves detection to approximately 70' away from the cameras. If the firmware is lower the camera is slightly less capable and the detection range is a terrible 15' to 20'. But you can upgrade the firmware through the app or call the EZVIZ tech support number for help.
You record to microSD cards. These are powered DC cameras with WiFi and an AC to DC plug, so you will also need AC outlets, DC power extension cables and a mesh network for these to work around the perimeter of your house.
I have our cameras set to turn on a spotlight and with AI human auto tracking and auto zooming. I like testing these at dark when two of these cameras lock on to me at a time walking around the house. It's basically like two people pointing spot lights in my face no matter where I go to. It also has a really loud microphone like you are talking through a megaphone. Perfect for security.
With the right settings, you can create a pretty intimidating set of security cameras for a potential intruder, but since you can arm and unarm all of your cameras with a single click, you can unarm them when you are expecting people. But if you are away or asleep at night, your cameras be set to scare people off. Plus you can set custom alarm messages that you record, like "This is a highly secured area. Turn around and leave now!". Or record a growling barking dog or anything you want to record. Two way voice conversations so you don't have to open your door to strangers.

We’ve used Arlo for a little over 3 years now and never had a complaint. It’s Al wireless and super easy to set up. We have 4 inside and 2 outside. Works seamlessly with our ring doorbell too.
I think we pay like $10 a months for 7 days of recording storage.
