We are considering purchasing new construction in Covington, the school district falls in Madisonville. I know that Madisonville doesn't yet have a high school but from what I understand they have land earmarked already.

Anyone have any updates? Our oldest is 3 so obviously we have plenty of time to wait, but was curious if there has been any progress.

I found a very old thread on this matter, but seems like crickets since:

Please move if it should be in OT, instead of H&G board.

Idk but buy in mandeville school district. The traffic in madisonville is absolutely absurd. You will regret it unless you don’t have to leave the house ever.

If you're going to be in unincorporated Covington, your HS will be CHS.

Do your own homework on it. It's not impressive.

I suppose it's possible you could get slated for an upcoming Madisonville HS, but remember that Madisonville kids currently go to Mandeville HS. I wouldn't bank on being able to send your kid there, especially with CHS being the other option.

Yes it shows high school as covington, so I can only assume if madisonville high is built they will go there, but if not, we can always move to mandeville at that point.

You might be right. The bad thing is that the other option is not a good one.

Where about are you looking to buy? Like near Hannan?

The only school in Madisonville is Madisonville Jr High. It’s 1st through 8th grade and Covington High is your high school.

This is based on my experience in the 1970’s; things might have changed.

Has definitely changed. My kids will go to Madisonville Elementary -> Lancaster -> Madisonville Middle ->Mandeville High as it currently stands.

We haven’t heard anything about a madisonville HS. And have heard the opposite of what OP said - that finding land to put it was the problem. Land costs are too high for them to buy. Someone said school board was hopeful someone would donate land for it. Not sure if that person was screwing with me

Daily traffic that gets squeezed across that quaint little draw bridge... (Peanut Butter/Straw)

That was 3 years ago (most current). Can only guess about 17k-18k today. LADOTD Estimated Annual Average Daily Traffic Routine Traffic Counts

I think he was referring to facts on the high school. There is no arguing the Covington and madisonville traffic issue lol.

it's a new subdivision called Preston Vineyards, seems like its pretty close to the covington airport. Honestly I don't know the area very well, grew up in Metairie, didn't venture over there too much until recently as my wife is working for the state over there now.

Maybe it is a matter of degree and things being relative seeing as I came from Metairie, but traffic in Mandeville has rarely been bad at all since I've been up here.

How is this a H&G thread, btw?

Thats an old sod farm. We used to shoot guns out there before the soccer fields were built. Found an old parachute in a tree out there as well.
