Yes. If you are not well-versed in drywall, it is NOT where you want to try and
do-it-yourself to save money. Try and save money somewhere else.

I've done drywall work 5 or 6 times in the past and each time it looked better than the last time. The most recent was renovating my home office after some hurricane damage and I finally bought a vacuum sander for that one. I skim coated every surface then sanded with the sander. Let me tell you, that was money very well spent. So much less dust and very professional sanding. I also bought a texture hopper for $50 from Amazon and the texture is very professional looking. My office looks like I paid a professional to drywall it now.

Bottom line: if you have the right tools, it's a lot easier.

Sister and mother in law both used HD for granite replacement. Installation looks fine. We ordered formica countertops from them for a storage room and that worked out fine also.
