I did mine myself. Probably about 900 sf. Don't know if I would want to do it in a larger area though. Just depends I guess.

I'm a pro.
Buy it "out the door".
Get an installer for $1.75 to $2.25 per sq ft.

We just did the 12ml vinyl wood planks for about $2.80/ft. Just gotta look until you find something on sale that you like. Took us a while.

ETA: with dogs and a 5 year old, I'll never have another type of wood floor.

Husband and I did it ourselves. 4000 sq ft + Brazilian Cherry and the sanding that followed and polyurethane (two coats).

Wish we had had the power nailer from the beginning. I can't imagine a 'pro' doing a good job for twice the price of the flooring by the square foot.

Can't remember when the last time I saw someone lay a sanded in place floor unless they milled their own flooring. The quality of prefinished floors is so far beyond poly these days.

My wife found ours a dirt cheap. We had to buy 50% more because some of them were defective, but we still came out ahead.

Just had it done 1200 sqft. Engineered in a small 100 sqft room downstairs and the rest 3/4 oak upstairs. Carpet removal, furniture moving, supplies, install, stain and sealing, molding, and painting to match molding.

About $6.6/sqft and in my area that was stealing. I had quotes all the way to 14k for the job.

Of that amount I estimate the install to be just about 50% based on contractor prices I had on just the wood.

Engineered isn't bad but lvp is just as good as that or better.
American oak solid stock still trumps all of the alterintaves.
No pun intended.

First 2 are of the solid oak last picture is the engineered.

Engineered pictures darker than it actually is.

I did laminate for about 1,300 square feet for about $7,500. That was everything. I didn't lift a finger. Even carpet removal.
