I do fairly well keeping mine clean.
Then my mom comes to town and cleans the kitchen after a meal and the damn thing looks brand new.
There shouldn’t be an art to cleaning a cooktop, but apparently there is.

If you don’t have gas go induction to replace the electric cooktop.

You might also want to mention that induction cooktops only work with ferro metal pots.
Magnalite (aluminum) pots will not work.

Had a glass countertop in an apartment while our house was being rebuilt. Hated it. Ceramic skillet didn't work well on it, cast iron scratched it. If anything boils over it's a real pain to buff out. Didn't crack it thank goodness but it was not "like new" when we moved out.
Razor blade and cleaning compound makes our look like new.

I love them. Absolutely the easiest way to cook and keep clean there is. I use only calaphan or other high end pots and pans.with zero issues.

Word of caution, do not store anything in a cabinet close to the cooktop that could drop onto it and shatter it. Our spice cabinet was right next to the oven hood. A bottle of Cumin decided to end it all, and leapt from our spice cabinet onto our new glass top. It was an expensive lesson and a difficult thing to have replaced. I'd only store sponges and throw pillows in the surrounding cabinets if I still had a glass top.

I've had a GE glass top for 5 years. It's been great. We generally do not care for it properly... Clean it with whatever and still looks fine. Only signs of wear are one of the white rings showing where a burner is located is starting to fade. Would recommend if you don't have gas.

They're pretty tough as long as you aren't dropping heavy items on them. My parents built a house back in the early 2000s and had a glass cooktop put in. Not sure why they didn't stay with gas, but that was their choice. They babied that thing, and it always looked great. I moved into my house in 2007, and it had the glass cooktop in it. I figured I would deal with it for a while then upgrade to gas. 13 years later and I can't kill the thing. Cast iron on it all the time. It gets dirty, but 5 minutes and some cooktop cleaner and it looks brand new. Whenever we do get around to doing a full kitchen renovation, I'm going with a 5 burner gas model, but I have to say the glass one has been way better than I expected it to be.

I shattered one with a lid of a pyrex dish that fell about a foot. Lid was fine - broke the top in pieces. Not too terrible to replace though. I did it myself in about an hour with a little youtubing. That said, I'll never voluntarily own another one. Gas is the way

I have had em for years, never a problem....then a few months ago I knocked a wine bottle over on it and it cracked the back left corner to hell and back. I can not wait to get a gas range in the future.

I can't wait until I get to replace it along with the POS microwave some genius located about five inches above the cooktop that vents air back in your face.
You must have bought the house I rented. Could barely see in pots the microwave was so low
