That is highly likely, especially if you had not shopped around. What method of fortification have you decided on? This is a large factor also.

I think the main variable was the taped seams vs water and ice and I got 100% water and ice

You must have a tiny house unless they didn’t upgrade your shingles to class 4 impact rated shingles. The shingles alone are a difference of a few thousand. Heck the 8d nails needed for redecking are $100 a box. The inspector cost is $750. Not sure how you got that but if it’s legitimate and you get your certificate from IBHS then that’s golden for you!

This is false. If they are paying to replace a roof, they pay for what is up there. 3tab roof? 3tab roof replacement.

The concrete hecker tiles are atypical hip and ridge caps. They pay to replace those. Same thing with the fortified roof

On the grant program, there is a long list of program approved contractors you c
have to choose from.
Recognizable names.

The program requires that you submit three names and select one.
Initially, you can get as many bids as you want.

The contractors have to provide you with an itemized bid listing step by step work they will perform to meet the Grant requirements.

Contractor has to submit 8 photos during the installation process.
Our contractor submitted 20 for program review.

Good on you for getting it at that price. Not sure how in the world they did it for that price. You got a heck of a steal. There’s a reasons the grant are $10k and not $500

Not sure you meant to respond so me or not but 8 photos! The guy from Arcane did my Fortified training and he told me that if I didn’t submit ATLEAST 150 pictures he wouldn’t look at it. That bastard haha. I use HDMK for my inspector and I send a ton of pictures

I'm pretty sure they took hundreds of photos for my job. I think my project manager said almost a thousand.

As far as the price, I'm sure Farm Bureau's default payout was more than sufficient to cover the gap. They probably made way too much money and were easily able to eat the difference between my $500 upcharge and the payout with comfy profits.

The roofer is required to submit 8 photos during the different stages of the job.

My roofer told me he submits 20.

Has anyone participated in the fortified roof grant program?

My house was selected, and I am figuring out whether to move forward with roof evaluation.

Appreciate any feedback.

Yes.

Roof estimate was a little less than $21,000.
3000 square foot home

We had to hire inspector for $650.

Grant paid roofer $10,000.

We paid the difference

Received credit of $1,054. From homeowners carrier for current policy term.

Very smooth going process.

I was selected but after pricing out insurance costs I was going to see an increase of an average of $2k a year. I have a metal roof and I was going to need to deck the roof, so my costs were higher than just a normal replacement, but no way I was going to come out of pocket just to have my insurance go up.

One roofer said the insurance companies are catching on to Louisiana and the grant program, so the discounts are disappearing. Don't take my word for gospel but that's been my experience from the last few months going through it.

My current roof is in absolutely terrible condition, so bad that the only insurance I am able to get is LA Citizens.

My insurance premium skyrocketed when I had to switch to Citizens, so I am really hoping that a new roof would allow me to shop around for insurance.

I currently have scheduled for an evaluation to be performed.

My house is very small, so I guess there's a chance that I won't have to pay much above the $10k.

Trying to see if worth getting fortified roof vs. savings on insurance.

This isn't going to be a decision that justifies financially.

Do you value a better built roof? That is the decision to make. A new roof will lower insurance. A fortified new roof will lower it a bit more than simply a new roof. I wouldn't bank on anything more than a few hundred dollar savings per year.

But, in a claim, if the fortified roof savings you from a claim catastrophe, then that is financial gains too. The secondary water barrier is a huge plus in a fortified roof but may not do much good if you have an oak tree branch fall on your roof in a wind event.

I'd also factor in attractiveness to insurance companies. Less likely to get dropped. More likely to be able to shop around if you need to. Your house becomes a much more desirable property to have on their books.
