...did you run it loose in the attic or did you go through the trouble of stapling it to the roof joists?

YouTube hasn't been very helpful for this type of renovation. Just simple how to wire the circuit at the box or how to wire the outlet.

If you're going to staple it, make sure you staple it properly.

Guy I know did the same except put the staple right between the wires and everytime he went up in his attic, he would get a shock and never knew why.

Sure enough, the head of the staple was exposed and when he brushed up against it, he got shocked

Just match whatever is done in your attic. It could be stapled every 4-6ft or it might not be.

But dont make it drastically different that an inspector woudl notice something.

...as someone in the electrical field, mostly commercial/hardly any residential, in my own home I go both ways.

Usually where the wire is running, temperature, and/or boredom with the project dictates which i do.

Back when I worked in the field if I ran romex for any reason, as with any other installation, it's always strapped down.

I have done both. As previously mentioned, I match what already is there. I try to have it blend in.

Yes you staple it

You also tape everything off and use a proper junction box

Do you want someone to die?

Engineer here as well, but my dad was electrician so I learned it from him first - if it's in the attic it gets stapled.

His favorite saying - if you can find the time to do it over you can find the time to do it right to begin with.

secure it anywhere there might be someone moving around up there

staple it or just find a secured wire and go over and under it so its secured by the other wire

if you are going to an outside wall send something stiff up from inside the house so you can grab it easy. getting it fed into and down the wall may not be possible otherwise

Had a new circuit run last year by electricians....I noticed they didn't secure the lines in the attic. Doesn't really bother me, but I found it odd.

And don’t staple it too hard.Make it firm but don’t slam it.

Always secure electric.
Low voltage wires on the other hand are a constant work in progress. I keep telling myself I’m waiting to finish before I secure them all. I don’t feel that bad about it.

highly unlikely to die from residential wiring shock even if it happens. you people act like it's lightening or something. wiring is typically only secured in places where there will likely to be traffic or in vertical places.
