Fire Ant Strategy

I always struggle with fire ants in my yard and usually spot treat mounds with Orthene and it works pretty good for a few days until the mound moves. I spray my house with Bifen every month or two and thought about spraying my yard with it too. How effective do you think bifen is on fire ants? Is there something better out there for whole yard treatment?

I used to spot treat with Orthene, then started using Triazicide yard spray and get very few ants at all now. Fewer everything really. I treat under my house and around the detached garage with DemonMax.

Spraying the entire yard, or using a granular bifenthrin like like Ortho Bug-B-Gon would be a good strategy. It is labeled for that use. Label also says it has residual of up to 3 months, but I doubt it is that long in our climate.
ETA: I apply granular bifenthrin at least once a year, sometimes twice, largely for flea control as I have a dog, and rarely, if ever, do I have a fire ant issue, and if I do it’s in locations where the bifenthrin wasn’t applied. I did have fire ant issues prior to using it.
Fipronil is a very good lawn ant control agent but it now a restricted use pesticide for that purpose, meaning you need a pesticide applicators license to purchase it, but you can buy it over the counter without a license for the formulations labeled for use as a termiticide.

I have been spraying Bifen IT in my yard for years. I use the liquid in a 15 gal. boom sprayer. I spray the whole yard plus bushes making sure to avoid flowers because of bees.
It takes care of fire ants, mosquitoes, spiders. It will last on average of 3 months.
I recommend to begin with spraying twice two weeks apart, then once every three months.
