I have a need of moving some household items @ 900 miles away. I'm beginning my research. I will not be towing a trailer. Has anyone used PODS and if so, how does this whole process work? Your input is greatly appreciated, HGB!

1. Order POD

2. POD gets delivered

3. Pack POD

4. Have POD picked up and stored or moved to new location.

ETA: You may want to also look into ABF: LINK

Thanks. I'll include the ABF in my search. I appreciate your help. I understand the general concept with the pod. I'm curious about the time element allotted to the use/transport expense. Thinking is used for weeks or per month? I also expect pricing to vary due to delivery distance. Any personal experiences are accepted. I'm a moving service novice.

Yes, I've used PODS. Works as WPBTiger stated.
The only drawback was the time it took to get there.
Overall, pretty decent.

I used it nearly 10 years ago for a move ~1000miles

Though it's been awhile since I used it, it was pretty seamless in terms of delivery, pick-up and transport. From what I remember, you should be able to input all of the input the pick-up and delivery dates and it should give you an eta/window along with all of the estimated costs.

Was able to find my old email - I had it delivered on 5/30, picked up on 6/6 and then delivered to my final destination on 6/18. Took a week to transport up to local storage facility before delivery. Was around $2300 total. I'm sure it's triple the price these days.

Definitely cheaper to do Uhaul truck and drive it.

Another option would be Uhaul Ubox which is a similar concept as PODS.

Tried to use PODS to move last year. In short: they’re a shite company, stay away from them. They’ll promise whatever you want to get you to order the pod. After that, you set a pickup date, then they’ll tell you it’ll be two months before it can be picked up and delivered to your destination. Also backtracking on everything you were told when ordering. If you call to try and make arrangements, you’ll be on hold for several hours until they hang up.They won’t call back if you choose that option either.

Go read their X reviews, or take a look at the “PODS storage needs to be stopped” page on fb.

My understanding is they use to be a solid company several years ago. It’s changed hands a few times and gone downhill surviving on name alone.

ETA: forgot to mention, at some point during that process they’ll double charge your card. Good luck getting a refund on it.

didn't someone on here throw an airtag in theirs and was able to prove it was already in town and got them to deliver it sooner?

Used them last year in 250 mile move. 2 PODS, dropped off one afternoon to be filled, picked up 24 hours later. Scheduled delivery date, gave us 7 days to unload, picked up the empty PODS. It was one of the smoother parts of our move.

All that said, I've read some horror stories. I did the AirTag thing and the PODS were always where they said they were. My understanding is the quality of service is highly regional

Good luck on the move

From what I gather if your moving from a relatively populated area to another it's not too bad time-wise. We went from Phoenix to a rural CenLA area where it was not so timely.

In-laws recently did this. As one poster said, biggest constraint was the time it took to get to destination.

We packed it the day after it arrived at house #1, it took them 3 weeks to get it delivered to house #2 which only gave 3 days to unload before they came pick it up. Otherwise, would have had to pay for another 30-days.

It's a 30 day deal I'm understanding, correct?

No shorter timetable option?

We used PODS last year. The pod was delivered in June. I kept it about a week so I could take my time filling it up. They picked it up and held it in BR until I scheduled it to be delivered to a PODS location in MO. It stayed in storage up here until we found a house. Really easy process. I could have done it cheaper with a ABF, but we didn't have a house to unload into for a couple months. I recommend them.

there are options. We were doing some Reno at the new house so we kept adding 15 days to the pod timeframe while we were waiting to move the stuff into the house.

They'll work with you.

It was a rather easy process. Our problem was when they were delivered that we could not open the sliding door. Stuff moved while in transit and blocked the door. We cut it open and had to fight with them about that. We were charged for the door but we were able to get out of it.

Other than that, good experience.
