Echo SRM-231 Weed Eater quits running after a few minutes of use.

My Echo weed eater starts as it should but after about 5 minutes of use it stops running. Once it quits it will not restart until it has set for about 10-15 minutes. Then it will start like normal. I have changed the spark plug, air filter, and replaced the fuel with brand new fuel. I'm not sure what is causing this issue.

Does it have a spark arrestor?

Have you ever put ethanol in it?

I’m not sure.
It runs like it is supposed to then stops. Once it stops it seems like it is not getting any spark. The weird thing is once it sits for a while it will start up with no issues.

Only what comes in the gasoline.

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. Could be carb or could be gunked up fuel lines, sounds like it’s running out of gas and stopping.

I have the kit to replace the carb and the fuel lines. I guess I will try it. I thought that it seemed like a spark issue at first. After replacing the spark plug and getting the same issue I guess it wasn’t.

ICE engines need fuel, air, & spark in order to run, so your problem can be either, or a combination.

I’ll second the spark arrestor question, I have an Echo 225 and in about the 3rd or 4th year of using it, it would start on 2-3 pulls but once running it would not idle well and would die when I revved it up.
Read a few reviews and saw several guys say remove the spark arrestor screen. I took it off and it was almost completely plugged up, I cleaned it with wire brush and gasoline and it worked ok for 3-4 uses then started having the same problems so I removed it, threw it in the trash and have ran the trimmer for 4 years without it, starts on the 3rd pull and runs like a new one every time.

Thanks. I will look into to doing this.

One of these is likely the issue.
Cracked prime Bulb
clogged carb
poor fuel
I`ve replaced all. After changing the carb, it did very good the first three times of use. Problems started again. Went to Home Depot one day and grabbed the pre mixed 50/50 in a can. Zero issues since.
Like others have said of ethanol being the issue, they are correct. Since using premix, chainsaw and weedeater have zero issues.
If you buy another carb, you can get one with air filter spark plug and gas line for like $15. Easy to chnage.

If you’re using it to edge it could be flooding. Happens to me all the time.

Could be duckbill valve. If it's stuck, fuel tank will form a vacuum during use.

hmm... antifreeze in a weed eater
(around here we just go to non-ethanol pump)
