Title says it. We have a backyard that has slowly turned to dirt/mud and there is no way with a toddler i can lay sod and let it take root. What is the easiest/quickest/lowest maintenance solution to this. At this point we don't even care that much about matching... we're just tired of a mud pit.

I don’t think you can get grass to grow in that area. I would probably consider just making it like a playground for the time being. Maybe put some border around the area and put some rubber mulch in there.

If it’s not getting 4 solid hours of sun you won’t have any options.
If 4+ then Zoysia or St Aug.

If you can’t lay sod then have someone install rubber mulch

Plant the shite out of some PRG or Fescue on 1 October.
You may have good grass through June if you keep it watered.
Thin your trees!!
