Desiccant Dehumidifier

I’d love one that doesn’t produce heat. We have a dehumidifier in our living room and when it’s running with our AC, the house humidity is around 45%-50%. The house feels amazing at 74° but walk into the living room and you instantly feel warmer because of it.

Is your air handler or furnace blower motor set to its highest speed? They usually are at the factory to deliver a nominal 400 cfm per ton of air flow. If so, you can reduce the speed of the blower motor to medium-high or medium to deliver 350 cfm per ton of air flow, which keeps air in contact with the evaporator coil longer helping to reduce humidity even further. It’s a simple thing to try and worth a shot unless the blower motor is already set at a lower fan speed.

Depending on the manufacturer and age of the unit, it typically will involve switching a blower motor wire on the air handler or furnace control board, or moving a toggle switch on the control board or or even pressing a button on the control board. How to do this, adjust the blower fan speed, will be in the owners manual for the air handler or furnace. If you don’t have the manual, find the model number of the air handler or furnace and you’ll find it on the web.

As an aside home hygrometers are not super accurate, and plus or minus 4% in either direction is not uncommon. But of course if it feels “muggy” humidity is definitely on the high side.

Love to hear if this works. We have this one and it does a great job pulling moisture out of the air when it's super humid outside, but it does put off hot air.
