I’m considering crushed limestone for the side yard where only weeds grow.

The area measures 45’ x 4’.

Anyone able to estimate /break down the cost?

The house is in Metairie.

Find someone with a small dump trailer. The cost to have 2 yards delivered will be high. $300-400 probably if you don’t need to have any dirt hauled off.

Call someone and tell them you need 2-2.5 yards of 57 stone. In my area it is 30 bucks a yard. You should ask for. Brown crushed creek rock, though. It costs twice as much but looks ten times better.

Rocks instead of mulch? How long lasting is that in terms of keeping weeds at bay?

I'm looking for a better solution than mulch for some areas as well.

Much better. Kill everything, lay some cloth down, and put rocks on top. May get a few weeds here and there but just hit with some round up. Also makes the area usable. I have gravel on the side of my house where grass doesn’t grow and that where I keep my ladders, extra trash cans, kid’s crap. Mulch will continue to break down and always need to be freshened up. Go with #57 or #8.

Interested in this too. I was thinking more of a 1-2’ wide edging butting up against my foundation. Anyone with thoughts on crushed gravel vs pea gravel?

I did it with $3.89 bags from Home Depot because they’re more portable than a wheel barrow or bucket full of rocks dumped in the driveway. Took me about 120-150 bags

If you own a truck, don't mind it getting a little messy, and dont mind some manual labor, i'd recommend going to Wood Materials in River Ridge with your truck. They charge $30/ton. Their frontloaders will dump the limestone directly in the back of your truck for as little or as much as you want depending on payload for your truck. You weigh in when you get there and weight out when you leave and they charge you on weight. It's extremely cost effective instead of paying for a dump truck to deliver. I've done this 3 times and it saved me alot of money.

Look on FB marketplace for a small local guy, most yards will only deliver a full 18tn load. 2Tns=1CY

This is a great idea. Do it on lots of commercial jobs to keep the water off the foundation and a nice barrier for termite guys/home maintenance. I prefer at least a #57 for this b/c the pea gravel being so small is an eye sore when it gets in the garden.

Don’t buy 150 bags from HD. You can do it cheaper than the $600 worth of rocks it would cost you.

Yeah I pay $240 a load delivered. 2 loads is plenty to do a nice parking pad for 2 vehicles

And you can fricking walk on it barefoot if needed (e.g., if you have a pool).
