I think that most would agree that a warm season lawn isn't a show case lawn until at least the July 4th holiday.
OK, I admit glossing over the showcase thing. I don't know what that means and I think I probably don't want to. What I do know is, white clover stayed long enough in my lawn to crowd out St. Aug. It's done it to me at three different houses. Waiting, for me, was not an option.

Sounds like you think it should be shown off in April, which just isn't the case.

I don't show off a lawn

Fair enough

For the future, My fall pre emergent in the front yard seems to have reduced my winter/spring clover by about 90%

I didn’t do fall pre em in the backyard and the clover is quite rampant.

just pointing out that clover will do it for you for free with no effort on your part, it will improve your soils, it will feed the bees, and it will disappear like a fart in the wind just about the time your zoysia greens up
beautiful green zoysia all year. Clover looks just like last year but a few more spots. It hides under the summertime lawn. I’m gonna nuke it w something. Yard is just too pretty to ride it out
