You never have to add muratic acid?

I have a 40k gallon pool, I’m not draining my pool.

That's one of the things on TFP that really annoys me. If you read the forums, that is their experts solution half the time. Like draining a pool and refilling it is a quick and easy task.

Other than that, though, I have had good luck using the TFP method. This is the first year I haven't had a major battle with mustard algae.

never. Ph drops throughout the summer and I'll have to add a couple more bags of baking soda but that's about it.

The reason for this is people come in frustrated with their pool because they chlorinated with pucks and the cya is crazy high. It's the only way to get it down. The best way is to be using tfp from the get go.

) Get the Taylor chemical kit I think it's 2006 or something. Don't trust the test strips.

I’ll also add not to trust a pool store with testing your water. I test mine with a TFP test kit that uses Taylor reagents. If I’m buying muriatic acid, I go to the local pool store and let them test my water (more for verification than anything). I went this morning and had to laugh.

A younger guy tested my water and told me I needed 16 pounds of Alkalinity plus and a lot of stabilizer. I asked what my levels were and he said, you have 0 for alkalinity and 0 for stabilizer. Now, I tested my water yesterday and about 2 weeks ago at the pool store. My CYA was 60, and my alkalinity was around 60 also (just added acid 2 days prior to lower pH). I asked the guy how my pool could go to 0 stabilizer since the last time I let them test my water. It was 60 when they tested 2 weeks ago. He said a lot of things can happen to mess with chemistry. You can’t make this up.

I told him the only way CYA would decrease is splashing water out or draining and refilling the pool. To get to 0, I would have had to replace all my water. He asked me what CYA was! I informed him and he retested everything.

This time the alkalinity came back at 55 and the CYA at 25. I asked him to have his manager come by to test and verify the CYA. The manager came and tested. CYA was 60. I’m glad I test my own water and somewhat understand pool chemistry.

I feel bad for people that don’t know how to test and 100% trust their pool store.

Out of the blue mine got a little cloudy. It has always been crystal clear.

I backwash my sand filter regularly. But I decided to backwash again yesterday and it flushed brown water for about 3 minutes it has never been more than a little dirty.

I rinsed and my pool cleared up overnight. Still have it eating acid and must add weekly
