inbefore " i put them in my mouth"
We have a ton of chestnuts. I usually just "peel" open 10-12 a year and let the others rot. Anyone have any good ideas on how to use these long term? They will get hard pretty quickly. Peeling the suckers, even after hot water treatments are a pain, and not worth it if I'm not certain I can use them afterwards.

I know the husk makes a great wood stain.

cant you just bag and freeze them like they do with pecans?

I hear they're pretty good roasting on an open fire....
But all kidding aside, freeze them in their shell in an airtight bag, and you'd get a few months of use out of them.

Beaucoup chestnut recipes out there, both savory and sweet. Chestnuts in stuffing is one classic, and sweetened chestnut purée is used in a slew of classic pastries. Candied chestnuts are time consuming but not difficult.

Chestnuts can be made into a butter or Creme de Marrons (chestnut spread) or simply grilled/roasted
Are you in the USA? Do you know what kind of chestnut tree? Very few chestnut trees in the USA since the blight killed them off.

Fun fact: The town of Chataganier means chestnut in French. The blight killed all the chestnut trees.
I’ve never had a roasted chestnut, but want too.
