Ceiling fan clicking noise

2 year old ceiling fan makes intermittent clicking sounds like a screw or metal is hitting something. Only happens every few minutes with just enough time in between to drive you insane. Any suggestions?

Is it one of the pull chains hitting the housing?
Does it do it on all speeds?

Is the fan out of balance? Any blades warped/bent?
Check pull chains. If not them, then check the internal wiring to make sure something isn't hanging and occasionally hitting the motor.
All else fails, just turn up the TV and/or radio

No pull chain, on low speed. Its controlled from wall mounted switch

Need to re-tighten the blades. It's likely off balance.

Of the fan blades are tight and in balance, you can tighten the set screws on the top of the fan to the down rod. They can loosen up over time and the movement of the fan can cause it to contact the screw that is loose. Also see if your globes on the light kit are tight.

Thx for the help, will try and tighten blades and screws, of course none are visible, will have to tear into to expose the screws

you will have to remove the three small screws holding the light kit to the fan. there should be a slotted hole inside the inner rim off the housing where you can tighten the screws. Be careful to not strip them as they are made out the shittiest metal known to man.

I had one that with a remote switch in the canopy. It would make a clicking sound only on one speed because of a little wobble on that speed. Ended up wedging the remote switch were it couldn't move in the housing and rub the canopy.

If it has a light kit the odds are that one of the glass light hoods is loose enough to move. That will create a regular clicking sound that is difficult to diagnose. The solution is to put a wide rubber band between the glass light hood and the screws

Was about to post just this.

Took the single globe off that has lights inside, dropped the housing holding lights inside that, finally was able to get to fan blade screws, tightened them all and replaced everything back and added a rubber washer under globe, we shall see. Thx for all the help.
