Is there any type of long term prevention I can do that will kill carpenter ants. Orkin wants $1,300 to treat my cabin….and that’s in addition to what I pay them to spray every 90 days.

How are they treating it? Just spraying? You can spray some bifenthrin yourself and probably get rid of them. I guess it depends on where the infestation is if they have to bait them. But that still seems like alot of dough.

I'd buy the stuff and do it myself before I paid that much money.

Carpenter ants damaged porch framing a few years ago. I learned that the ants live in wood but forage a large area around the house. You can get an idea about where they forage from their trails. They are most active before and after Sun. Cut any foliage that touches your cabin to reduce the routes. Put carpenter ant baits along trails. Try to put baits out of rain.

Use both a granular protein bait and a sugar gel bait. Carpenter ants switch between those 2. It took me 2 years of DIY to eliminate.

I had carpenter ants all over my driveway and saw they were coming to and from an old water oak. I put some Home Depot Orthene any powder around base of tire and with a couple days had hundreds of dead carpenter ants all underneath the tree and on my driveway. Took care of the problem for a long time. Then applied it yearly. A cheap first fix that worked.

Termidor for all types of ants and termites. I told this to a friend of mine when selling house and inspection showed carpenter ants. He said he needed a receipt from exterminator for the realtor. He called me when exterminator left and the invoice for $600 showed he used Termidor.

Had them pretty bad and I read where D.E. (Diatomaceous earth) was good for getting rid of them. I have a pool with a DE filter so I had it on hand and it worked like a charm. I found where they were going into the house and put the DE there and scattered in the flowerbeds and around trees, etc. It’s cheap and it definitely worked for me.
