Looking for something so I can diagnose and fix minor issues, but mostly looking to clear the airbag codes we have that are due to a loose sensor connection that tripped the codes ad won't go away without a reset.

I have this one. Helped me diagnose and fix issues on 3 vehicles including my airbag warning light in my Sierra (kids were kicking the harness under passenger seat)
Bluetooths seamlessly to the phone app. Gives great insight into common fixes/parts.

I haven’t bought one in 7-8 years now because I’ve kept the same toys but you may check car-specific forums. Used to be you needed a pretty specific command set to do things like release electronic e-brakes or reset maintenance intervals. Now maybe you just download an extension but I don’t know. I would make sure whatever you get can do those kinds of things for your make/model/year.

Supposedly my battery just needs a disconnect and it'll reset if I made a good connection on the airbag sensor. These cars are all so dumb. Dealership wanted to charge me $2k to replace the sensor.

I know I kept having the issue. The scanner would point to the sensor and a forum pointed me to the harness under the passenger seat. I could turn it off with the scanner after re-seating the plug. I finally put two and two together, that it was any time my boys were in the back of the truck. The harness had come loose and escaped the little plastic shroud and they'd kick it with horseing around.
That said, I got this scanner because it had the airbag scan ability where most didn't.

I bought this one 5 years ago, and it was only $30 back then ($59 now).

They will not reset codes...they are more than happy to scan and help you guess what's wrong though.

This only works with a laptop and software associated with it. You can do some really cool stuff with it if the car computer is cracked but for a beginner maybe something else.

I have a Carista that I bought on amazon.
There is a subscription with it though. It connects to my iPhone with bluetooth. On my wife's car, I was able to shut off where it would shut the engine at a stop. On my truck, i turned off the seatbelt dinging. I don't have to have it fastened when I'm at my land and the dinging was constant, so I turned it off.
There were hundreds of other setting on both cars that you could switch around as well.

I bought the Bluedriver pro scan tool off Amazon many years ago. It has done very well for me.
