Can you sand down aggregate driveway?

Ours is weathered and previous owner didn't seal it, so it's brutally painful to walk on barefoot. The concrete part has eroded and the rocks stick up way too much. Kids playing basketball tear their knees up. It's actually somewhat dangerous I think.
Is there a way to sand it down a bit smoother then I can seal it and maintain it from there?

people grind and polish concrete for indoor floors all the time. Specialty equipment though its something to hire out.
Will be expensive

what is the deal with people wanting to seal driveways lately?

I've never heard of it until I had this aggregate driveway that is treacherous as hell from erosion. Neighbors do it and theirs look great still.
The rock parts of the aggregate stick up wayyy too much. One of them popped a soccer ball I was dribbling like a basketball

Not trying to make it completely smooth, just sand down the sharp edges sticking up so it resembles a new aggregate driveway and not a 40 year old one that has never been taken care of.

just hire a company to come out and lay down 1" thick asphalt layer over it and be done with it.
its that, or replace the driveway if its as bad as you say

I’d consider some kind of overlay instead of sanding

I’d assume a thing overlay like that would crack. Concrete just layers right? I’m no expert but I don’t think that would work well at all

A relative of a friend had some sort of blue paint on their driveway. I was a kid when I came across it and just remember how it didn’t get hot in the summers. We could play basketball barefoot at noon in the middle of August and it didn’t get hot. It was mind blowing even as an 8 year old kid. Maybe it was green… but I do remember thinking how weird it was until we started playing barefoot on it

you could do just a 1/4" layer of asphalt and it wouldnt crack, it literally doesnt matter how thick or thin it is.
do you even understand what asphalt is?

Asphalt absolutely cracks. Not in the same manner as concrete but it does reflect cracks from below.
