Can piping from a sink to the drain be ran a ways from the sink?

Have an outdoor kitchen that the bricklayer sort of messed up. He put my garbage can where my sink was supposed to be. Height of garbage can is 24 inches and depth is 15 3/4 inches. My height of my island is about 42 inches and my drain is 19 inches depth wise. Is this enough clearance or do I move my sink over and put drain going around garbage can and is this even feasible?

I don’t see a problem with it, but we could use some more information.
Island, vent, location of sink??
42” sure is tall unless that’s your bar top.

Don’t know how to post pics. I went ahead and put garbage can unit in where it goes. I have about 12 inches of clearance from top of garbage can unit. If I put an 8 inch sink it gives me four inches to put drain to side and p trap on side of can.

Sounds like you might be able to run the drain pipe behind the trash pullout if you have 3” of space in the back. Would let you have any sink depth you want.

That’s another option as well. I could put sink to the side of garbage can and wrap around. Does drain need to be pvc pipe or can I use flex pipe to connect to P trap then to drain? That would really help me out a lot.

I would ditch the built in garbage can. Sounds like it would fill up too quickly anyway, given the size. Get a stand alone outside can with a tight lid. A pullout trash bin is asking for flies, roaches, etc. right next to your cooking/cleaning area.

Already got island built. I took garbage can, refrigerator and sink and put where it would be on island and made sure it would fit. It does and can route drain pipe to the back of garbage can. Garbage only goes 15 inches into island. Drain pipe is 19 inches inside of island.
