Can I get some generator set up feedback? Bought a Generac GP8000E

10,000 start, 8,000 running.
$900 at Sams. Seemed like a good price so I picked one up. Usually they around $1200 and was rated 4.8/5. It’s not smart being in LC suburbs without a generator and we just do not have the money to put in a stationary gas generator.
Our home is 2500 sqft but really need this to support freezer, 2 Fridges, window unit AC, and some appliances.
What is the best way to have this set up for the home? Getting an electrician to tie this into the electric control panel somehow or just running a bunch of extension cords.
I guess I answered my own question if I want to run all these appliances.
What do I need to buy to tie in a mobile generator if that’s the way to go? I really don’t know anything and need some kind of guidance.

Power inlet box with interlock switch kit.
I’m doing it now myself and it’s pretty straightforward. I tried getting quotes but they were ridiculous, especially in our area.
You should have a 50 amp receptacle right?

According to this it only has a 30amp twist lock Spec Sheet

So if you’ve got 30a only, you could just do what I did.

Interlock switch kit that fits your box.
Double 30a breaker common trip.
You probably have a main breaker box outside like I do. Figure out what breaker box you have and what breakers you can use.

I have the same generator. Has a 30 amp plug and breaker, and will definitely trip trying to start a 90 amp FLA compressor

It’s a good one. I’ve got the 6500 version and it’s got me through all of Laura.
If you really wanted to, you could trade it in for something with a 50a plug to have a hope of running your central ac with a soft starter.

Yea its a good generator IMO. I run my whole house with mine, including central air. Have to know what you're doing to get all that stuff on line without tripping it though

For a little bit more, this will run your entire house and AC. I paid an electrician around $500 to install the interlock system and 50 amp plug in. No extension cords, just plug it into the house and turn on the breakers you want to have juice.

I have this one and I don’t see how one could use the handle AND have their fingers where the handle would crush them. I’m keeping it, not returning it.

As stated already, 30 AMP plug outside and interlock between the 30amp dedicated breaker and main breaker on the panel (assuming main is in the panel)
