I used Scott's weed n feed in the past, but I've seen recently that it isn't that great.

I can’t help you with that because I’m a liquid only guy. Others like craw can help. I would strongly suggest going to grainger and getting a decently priced backpack. Then go to site one and get msm.

I agree with ronk and jimbean, I use liquids for post-emergent herbicide sprays and they have just about have me converted to using spray dispersible pre-emergent herbicides (heretofore I’ve been using granular pre-emergents for convenience). Sprays are cheaper per 1000 sq ft, and you you have the option of spot spraying random weeds.

Now if I had to use a granular post-emergent herbicide now (like today) to cover an entire lawn I’d choose this Fertilome Trimec herbicide LINK. I know one of the local retail plant nurseries carries it. Note this is a granular herbicide only - not a weed and feed.

I’m guessing you haven’t used pre-emergent herbicide if you have a lawn full of weeds. If you do start using those going forward in early fall and late winter you’ll spend less time and save more $ spraying weeds.

ETA: In BR I saw it Cleggs on Siegen, yesterday I think as I buying vegetable plants, but it’s possible LA Nursery, Plant Tech, some hardware stores have it as well.

I have used bonide weed beater in the past with good results. I have a large yard so granulars are easier but now shifted to barricade and spot spray

Your link shows the product says it's not to be used on St. Augustine grass. Can you recommend a granular that does work on St.Aug grass. Thanks

My bad - good catch. I’m a bit puzzled why St Augustine is not listed on the label as Trimec herbicides are routinely labeled for use on St Augustine, maybe the concentration of one of the three herbicides in the mix?

Options are limited with granular herbicides formulations that don’t contain fertilizers. Perhaps the Bonide Weedbeater suggested by Jaspermac if you can find it. I looked at the label and it looks to be a good herbicide for St Augustine.

If you are Baton Rouge and haven’t fertilized your lawn yet, and your St Augustine has greened up you can also consider using a Weed & Feed product. Here is a Fertilome Hi Yield Weed & Feed product containing Trimec herbicide labeled for use on St Augustine you can consider. LINK

Trimec can’t be used on foratam so rather than say that they just leave it off the label

Figured it was most likely an issue like that. Probably a wise move by Fertilome as I suppose people most don’t what cultivar of St Augustine they have. Sure are a lot of varieties of St Augustine.

I got an inexpensive bottle of liquid treatment from WalMart that worked incredibly well. I'm sold on the liquid application now.
