What is best in Southeast Louisiana? Looking for something hardy for a soggy spot that I can harvest leaves for cooking.

Bay tree (Laurus nobilis)
Indian bay leaf (Cinnamomum tamala)
Mexican bay leaf (Litsea glaucescens)
California laurel (Umbellularia californica)

those are the edible "bay leaf" trees

I've got one in a half barrel size pot that is thriving and it gives me more than enough for cooking and sharing with family and friends. Doesn't need to be in the ground and is right outside on the patio for easy picking.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea because I enjoy Bay Magnolias, but they are found all over the swampy areas of the gulf coast. You can go and harvest all the time for free, considerably different than something like an orange or peach tree that's a lot better to have in your back yard.

I'm simply pointing out I'd pick the best tree you want for the spot over picking it for harvesting.
