Looking to build french drains around the house. Anyone have experience with this? Looking for recommendations on what type of pipe/brand to buy and lay down to cover with gravel.

Yep, perforated sock pipe. They sell it at Keeling and at most Home Depot’s

Sutherlands also carries this if you have one in your area.

I’ve done this many times.
Put an inch or so of pea gravel in the trench, lay the pipe, cover with more pea gravel.
Than lay weed barrier cloth over the trench and cover with dirt then sod. The weed barrier cloth prevents dirt particles from migrating into the gravel and slowing water percolation. Gravel all around the drain pipe supports the pipe better so it can take heavier weights and traffic on top of it.
Do it right and do it once!

I used the PVC pipe for my French drains. They have them predrilled. Sell it at HD. IMO the perf pipe clogs easier so I spent the few extra bucks to put down the best pipe possible and not worry about it.
