I’ve seen where people cut the stem down low and pile mulch on it to keep it warm. This was typically done by those in colder climates, so I’m wondering if I need to do the same with only five-six days of below freezing temps. Currently, I have the root and half of the stem wrapped with blankets. The plant is above 12 ft’ tall.

My experience over the last 10 years or so is that, in br, they will die back to the ground every winter, can then be cut back to the ground at any time up to the spring, and have regrown each year without any effort for winter protection. I think what you have done is unlikely to change the outcome above or below ground at the temperatures we are experiencing

keeping banana plants alive isnt the problem, finding a way to kill that abomination of a trash plant is the problem. they never seem to die no matter what you use to try and kill them

I have friends in Florida that actually harvest bananas most years. I am jealous I can't save that $.59/lb on bananas for a couple of weeks...

Didn’t think the type that grows here was edible. Had banana trees for years and the fruit was always small

It would be easier to kill a cactus than a banana bush.

The best policy is to cut down to ground, dig up as much bulbs as possible, pour gasoline over area, cover first with sand, then with topsoil. Followed by prayer.
