Has anyone replaced a French door ball catch type of closing mechanism with something that works better?
I've tried adjusting the ball to make it easier to open etc but it's just a noisy pain.
I've seen some magnetic ones. Anything else?

I have seen some roller type latches that work in the same fashion. You could always use flush bolts. Another option would be to use a spring-loaded hinge just to keep the doors in the shut position. Once you adjust the ball and get it to where it's working properly I would put a little clear nail polish on the side so it resists moving up and down when you open and close it rotating the ball down over time.

I used a light lubricating oil on mine and it made a huge difference.

Was going to say this. Try to lubricate.

Use graphite lube or molybdenum spray, unless you are using a spindle oil that doesn't become gummy with age and simply becomes an abrasive paste. Silicone dry film spray also works well.

Assuming the height is adjusted correctly, use a little Vaseline on the ball
