I have a lot of bahia grass growing in my St Aug front yard.
I've read that MSM will zap it but am concerned about what it will do to my grass in this heat. Whenever I apply celsius at a mid rate it takes longer for the st aug to recover than it does for the buttonweed or chamberbitter to start coming back.

Has anybody had any luck in this heat with MSM on St Aug? I'm not against watering daily if needed.

MSM Turf is very effective in eliminating bahiagrass in St Augustine - I eliminated it in my lawn, which was once part of a dairy pasture. You can use MSM at labeled rates in this heat, St Aug will show some temporary stress and yellowing but will recover.

You could test by spot spraying first. If you do, wait 3 weeks at least because MSM takes awhile to work. I know it works well on bahia in the spring!

Thanks, there's parts of the yard that just really recovered from when I applied Celsius in April. It just started looking good so I'm kind of hesitant to mess with it again.

Well then just wait until fall - otherwise you are going to get some St Aug stress that will be visible - just might have to cut your St Aug more frequently until then.

Surprised to hear you had that much lawn stress from Celsius applied in April, applied later when hot is understandable - you sure you didn’t over apply?

I tried to be pretty careful with it but it's possible. I had the same issue last year and tried to do a better job of measuring and such. I just spot treated.

Pretty easy to overdose when spot spraying, I think there is a natural tendency to spray too much - I did so in May with some MSM mixed at the right dose (I weigh granular herbicides on a digital scale) and killed a little centipede surrounding it - I know better but happened anyway.

that's how I weigh mine as well. When spot spraying do you just mist over?

That’s what one should try to do - in same vane as spraying 1 or 2 gallons over a 1000 sq ft for an entire lawn spray. One has to move pretty quickly while spraying to “mist over” 1 or 2 gallons of herbicide solution over a 1000 sq ft. Often time it’s easy to forget that lawn grasses are only resistant to selective herbicides and not immune to them.

Thanks, that's probably where I screwed up with Celsius. I was soaking button weed

Don't soak. Use a fan tip and hold the spray end at knee height. You simply walk at normal speed and start spraying before the weed and stop spraying after.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.
