Are window A C's repairable or just huge boat anchors when they quit working right?

Whirlpool 16,000 BTU blows cool air out and sounds like it is trying to kick in fan but nothing happens.

They can be repaired. Most are easy to work on. But, they are designed to be thrown away after they stop working.

They can be repaired but they are typically manufactured without refrigerant service ports so you have to open the system and solder those in if you want to recharge it properly.

If you already have typical HVAC tools and are pretty handy it may be worth your while.

But if you don't probably best to toss and get a new one.

Honestly, after having a window shaker in a 20 x 20 attached garage and then switching to a mini split I would never go back.

I just had a 10K BTU GE unit go out after 4 months. I assume it was the main control board because it had moisture behind it and was rusted on the back side. They don't sell parts for the unit because it's cheaper to buy a new one then have them serviced is what GE told me.

They did honor the warranty and sent me a card for the cost of the new unit which was nice.

Had two fixed in New Orleans long time ago. I think it's worth fixing if possible, tired of throwing stuff away and adding to landfill.

I wouldn't use it as a boat anchor.
Too cumbersome
