I’m wanting to put a layer of sand out on most of my yard to try and level/smooth it out. Any suggestions on buying bulk sand in the Baton Rouge area?

I tried cleggs last year and it was full of rocks. I’m hoping to find some sort of screened sand that I can pick up or have delivered.

Call up local trucking company and get a load of mason sand.

I buy the super sacks. Not cheap but it’s good clean sand and it’s easy to deal with in the sack. Just bought a drop spreader from northern tools. I’m ready to try it out.

Jim Stone has mason sand for $40 a cubic yard. I think they will deliver for a little more.

That’s pretty close to the house. I’ll have to give em a call and see what it will cost to dump a load on my driveway

Hollis Kinchen 224-355-4051. Bout $30 a yard and has an 8 yard truck.

Or General Sand and Gravel 225-261-2953.

Mason sand should be clean i]because it’s used for plaster and brick mortar.

Hollis Kinchen also makes a vegetable garden soil mix and a flowerbed soil mix if you need that in bulk. I’ve bought the garden mix a couple times. Good stuff. It’s his son Ivy. Hollis died a few years ago.

What’s better for leveling my yard - sand or topsoil? I have a very unlevel yard with some pretty low areas that I need fixed. Do I go sand or topsoil? I would think sand would just wash right away with the first heavy rainfall.

I use riversilt. I like it but some here will tell you it has seeds and weeds. I’ve used it for leveling and filling ruts, holes for years and really haven’t seen a big problem. I’m sure it can but it works much better than sand and it packs. If you have a problem put some weed and feed down. That’s just me.
