Any of you ever use Cretin / Townsend Homes? Is this a DR Horton type company?

I’ve seen them on Facebook and looked at their website. House build look nice but then I see they’re a regional builder. Says Louisiana, coastal Alabama and Miss, and Florida panhandle.

Seems kind of broad and a company instead of a contractor. Thoughts? I’ve seen Shumachers website which seems the same.

Is this like a DR Horton type thing?

Its been like 5 years, but my sister used them. At that time they did not do driveways, dirtwork, mirros, or provide builders risk insurance(its your lot, you have to get it).

They had limited floorplans, they may have more now. They had limited options on extras.

If you like what they offer, I wouldnt hesitate to use them. Just dont expect a "custom" home.

I used Schumacher last year and couldn't be happier. The house was built in 5 months when other people were taking 12. The final price was known up front and they bought all materials the day we signed the contract. You can make any change you want to the floor plan. Like the other poster said, you will have to take care of your own driveway and landscaping. They do have a guy that does site prep and you pay him separately too if I remember right. You also get with the electrician after the house is framed to make any additions/changes. (can lights/sockets behind TV's/ethernet runs/etc.)

This is the BR/NO division. I heard the Lafayette group is bad.

I started with the Thibodaux.

I built with Cretin/Townsend 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. Like anything, there were minor things that had to be touched up and fixed, but to this day they do not hesitate to come out and fix it if needed.

With that said.. yes, they only plan/build the house. As far as driveway, landscaping..etc, you have to take care of yourself. Although the site manager they assign to your build has contacts for all of that and they can get you in contact with people who can take care of it. You just need to make sure you have that budgeted extra on top of what you're paying for the house.

Far from it.. You can customize any of the plans to your liking and add/take off whatever you want. You get to choose everything from you brick, fixtures, flooring, roofing, insulation..etc
Furthermore, the build quality is also way above what you get with Horton and DLSD. Your site manager goes over each process of the build with you and checks the work of the contractors. If its not right, he has them come back and redo it.

Just moved into our home built by them in May.

I'll tell you they make it easy to build a custom home.

We are very satisfied with our home, there were hiccups along the way but nothing major and each one was addressed and taken care of with no issues.

They use local sub contractors to do the work. The project manager for our home is from our area and was a self employed contractor before going to work for them. The finish carpenter went to school with me.

Yes they are a regional company but they use local subs to build the homes.

Yes, I wasn't happy with anything I saw on their site, someone who built with them told us to go meet eith them, they have hundreds of plans. He was right. Ultimately we combined 2 plans and added some custom touches and Sq feet.

And if your want something they don't have, you can get it yourself and they will install. They didn't have any outdoor fans we liked so bought what we liked and they put them up.

As was also said no they don't do driveways, sewer, landscaping but your build manager has all the hook ups you will need and usually great prices.

As far as builders risk, they have a company they recommend and are the cheapest for the coverage.

Yes alot more, they can also mix and match plans and even offered to quote a plan my wife and I had already.

The options for extras has grown alot in 5 years, at least we didn't think they were limited but if you don't find what you like, you can always source it yourself and thry will install

Grizzly, we’re they contracted at that price upfront or could it change during the build?

Thanks for everyone’s replies

Fir Cretin, once you sign the build contract, the price is set minus any change orders that you would make of course.

Also we got quotes for our plan then went to Cretin and actually built a home almost identical to our original plan only 400 Sq ft bigger and they beat our other quotes by over 150k
