What is this? It has blown up in my yard the past few weeks.
I'd like to get rid of it but not at significant expense or harm to my dog. Any advice? In Acadiana if location helps.

I don’t have any first hand experience with it but look up Florida Betony. It resembles this from the photo. Does it have square stems?
Short video on ID & article. It’s a cool season perennial but the short video says it can appear in northern FL in Sept-Oct. I hope it’s something else.

No square stems but if that isn't it, it is damn close.
I have had those little purple flowers in the yard earlier in the season. Some of the leaves have the serrations along the edge.

Were the flowers on a stem above the plant, or closer to the plant/ground. Single flowers or bunches?

Looks like horse herb to me. I actually grow it as a native groundcover and it will spread

Large single flower per stem. At the top.

I just looked at pictures. Then went and looked in the yard again. In some areas I'm seeing the little yellow flowers, just like the reference pics.
I think this is it. Looks like shite in random splotches around the yard. Not sure if I'm going to do something about it.

That’s great - be thankful it’s not FL Betony.
