Does fall pre emergent have any impact on weeds that come up in the spring and summer or only winter weeds? I'm trying to wrap my head around it because I really don't care about my yard in the winter. I've only done the spring pre emergent the past 2 years and really haven't noticed any difference.

St. Aug/Centipede mix. Live in Gulf Coast area.

Pre-emergent has an effective efficacy of about 3 months in the Deep South, so a fall application for winter weeds would dissipate by the time spring weeds germinate. If you don’t care about winter weeds don’t apply it pre-emergent in the fall.

Winter weeds can stick around (burweed ) well beyond spring.

Do the right thing. October, February, May

Soil temp right now for me is 78 degrees over a 24 hour average. My understanding it's best to put out Fall application when soil is between 70-75. Time should be good in a few weeks.

Do you put out pre emergent again in May after the February application?

I will next year. I'll use Prodiamine because it is effective for both pre and post emergent (young) crabgrass.

I may use a different active ingredient in Februrary so as to not put out too much Prodiamine over the course of the year.

I don’t think that is case - Dimension (dithiopyr) has efficacy as a post-emergent on young crabgrass seedlings but not Prodiamine as I understand it. One good reason to consider using Dimension should one be a little late in applying pre-emergent in late winter.

Thanks! I got it confused with Dimension. Man, this stuff takes time to learn!

In Georgia I use Prodiamine granules in the Spring, but will be using Simazine liquid for my fall application. It sounds like tolerance can become an issue and Simazine should work better on my winter weeds (poa, henbit)
